About Umbral
Umbral Backgrounds is a small catalogue of wallpaper collections for phone and desktop. Each one is a world held at a single hour, with its own palette and its own handful of objects: a bench and a chalk bowl, a register drawer, an anchor, a dusty road.
The collections
Most are named after an hour — Umbral 2:47, Umbral 5:41, Umbral 11:08 — and the hour is the moment the collection is about. Others carry a name instead: BANKNOTES, OFFSHORE, Stars, FIERRO, ALBURQUERQUE. A collection holds between six and fifteen scenes, and almost every scene comes in a phone and a desktop version.
A recurring guest
A bulldog turns up once in most collections, dressed for whatever world he is standing in: a lifting belt, a cable-knit tennis sweater, a cashier's visor, a sailor's cap. He is easy to miss, and that is the idea.
